What units of measure does Retro Ride Hub use?We here at Retro Ride Hub have linkages back to our motherland and thus use the metric system (centimeters). Apologies to all those still using imperial (inches / yards) 😆. Please ensure all measurements are accurately provided in centimeters (cms) when ordering via the Product Page, Quick View or Add to Cart option via the search option. Our machines and templates are calibrated to the metric system.
-
What does length (L) & height (H) refer to?For the avoidance of doubt or confusion resulting in advising incorrect measurements at the checkout phase: 1) Length or "L" or (L) refers to the X axis (refer below). 2) Height or "H" or (H) refers to the Y axis (refer below).
-
How do I measure and advise correct sizing during the order process?Accuracy in measurement is key to ensuring you achieve optimum alignment and quality fitting decals. We need your co-operation in this process and encourage the mantra to always “measure twice, advise once”. Three key pointers before you get started. 1) Given bike surfaces are rarely flat ensure you have a flexible measuring device like a measuring tape or measuring roll. 2) Have good handheld lighting at the ready (a white, bright torch works well) as this will assist to clearly see the very edge of your graphic / text on what can often be highly reflective gloss surfaces, warping your field of view and throwing out a measurement even by a couple of millimetres, and 3) Have someone else assist you to achieve precision measurement (4 eyes are better than 2!). Measurement & ordering process - Frame 1) Frame length (L): a) Using the below example and considering frame curvature, precisely align the measuring tape to the farthest tip of the graphic / text. b) Considering font italics / slope and frame curvature, the measurement to the opposite end results in a length (L) measurement of 37.75cms. 2) Frame height (H): a) Using the below example, apply the starting measure point on the top edge of the graphic / text. Be mindful of larger letters within a given brand. If present, measure the largest letter height (H) and our templates will calibrate accordingly for the remainder of the font. b) Being mindful of not only font italics / slope and frame curvature, some makers (e.g. Canyon) also fade their text on some models resulting in different sizing at one end vs another. Noting this and following the frame curvature, measure the bottom edge. The measurement results in a height (H) of 4.6cms. 3) Insert these length (L) and height (H) measurements into the mandatory free format text field (“Dimensions of Decal: cm (L) x cm (H)”) in the Product Page prior to ordering (refer below). 4) Additionally, if there are any special or additional instructions needing to be advised (e.g. fading text sizing), please also insert these dimensions into this same mandatory free format text field section (“Dimensions of Decal: cm (L) x cm (H)”) in the Product Page. 5) Once concluded, add to cart and proceed to checkout. 6) Before finalization, reconfirm all advised measurement details and ordering instructions are complete and correct prior to payment. Measurement & ordering process - Frame 1) Rim length (L) & height (H): a) This is achieved in a similar way to frame measurement. Using the below example, factor in the curvature of the rim and precisely align the measuring tape to the farthest left edge of one of the letters (in this case the “S”). b) Accounting for font italics / slope and rim curvature, the measurement to the farthest right edge of the “S” results in a length (L) of 1.7cms. c) Repeating this process, measure the top edge. The measurement to the bottom edge results in a height (H) of 1.7cms. 2) Our machines will then calibrate for the total length of the text format required however, to mitigate measurement issues we ask a double check is performed: a) Measurements for each decal are to be placed into the mandatory free format text field (“Dimensions of Decal: cm (L) x cm (H)”) in the Product Page, and b) The total length of the “SLR” decal itself (being 6cms) should also be inserted into this free format text field. c) Once concluded, add to cart and proceed to checkout. d) Before finalization, reconfirm all advised measurement details and ordering instructions are complete and correct prior to payment.

What do I use to prepare the surface and apply the decals?Due to the wide variety of materials used by manufacturer brands in the outer layer of a frame, rim or mechanical component, Retro Ride Hub does not make any representations to endorse or recommend the use of any particular substance / product on the surface of your bike to prepare this for application of our decals. Notwithstanding our products having robust adhession properties, some cleaning of the surface is recommended otherwise bubbling, non-adhesion or foreign items can be trapped below the decal. Common sense should therefore be applied in the careful preparation to the surface of your pride and joy (aka your bike) in readiness for application. Some brands respond very well to a light surface polish and buff, to remove any stubborn foreign substances present on the surface. Other surfaces could simply benefit from a general wipe down with a lint free, soft bike frame cleaning cloth, being careful to not scratch or damage the surface of your bike in the process. Once inspecting the surface visually and physically, you can be reasonably satisfied that our product will take well to adhesion with minimal likelihood of issues.

How do I apply the decals?Refer to the How to Guide page on our website.

How do I best maintain my decals? There are various aspects to optimum maintenance of your decals. Given you have taken the time to carefully customise the size and colour to match your preferences, it's worth taking time to maintain these with a few basic things in mind. 1) Preparation of surfaces Thorough upfront surface preparation prior to application of decals improves the possibility of extending the life of the decal. It's recommended that time is spent to carefully prepare your bike for application so that future issues are minimised due to inadequate surface preparation. Further to this, noting that not all bike manufacturers use the same external / outer coating layer on their products to ensure a consist outcome for all our customers, Retro Ride Hub therefore cannot control nor guarantee the application longevity of our product. It’s worth noting however, that we have testing of all our products on bike surfaces to ensure what is being sold has been proven to work within an acceptable product use life cycle. Lastly, our products are derived from high quality commercial grade automotive industry products which are already in use and extensively tested. 2) Regular cleaning Retro Ride Hub attempts to always use the highest quality materials available to strike a balance between ease of application, removal (if necessary) leaving no residue, maximising the product longevity and overall visual appeal. No corrosive liquids, gels or materials should ever be applied to the decals which would otherwise cause melting, bubbling, flaking, peeling or any degradation of the product. There is a risk this will also impact your bike surfaces. We here at Retro Ride Hub are neat freaks and we like things clean! The simple rule we ascribe to is when cleaning the surface of your bike post each ride (as all good cycling enthusiasts should do), it's worth carefully maintaining the decals in a similar way to how you would ordinarily protect the surface of your bike. Gently wipe over the decals to avoid any scratching or lifting. A soft lint free micro-fibre cloth is recommended. It's also worth taking the time at this stage to visually check the decals to ensure there is no lifting or defects present. Despite best efforts, we cannot cover for all possibilities and rely on regular feedback and communication from our customers to help Retro Ride Hub perfect its product satisfaction. If anything is experienced we suggest sharing this with our network via the community feedback portal on facebookor email us and inform us. 3) Method of cleaning / how to clean? Despite decals being low profile, they still create a raised surface. Therefore when cleaning - even with a soft cloth - there is a chance of catching corner edges and lifting to occur, especially if bike maintenance hasn't occurred or the decals have been heavily exposed to the elements over time. When cleaning it's recommended that wiping outward from the centre of the lettering or logo and in the same direction as the slope / italics of text, to minimize lifting and improve re-adhesion (if needed). This method is similar to the application process when trying to avoid bubbling (refer application video in FAQs below or How to Guide). Lastly, it's worth noting that certain bike brands have more intricate or different stylized designs with a higher propensity to expose lifting at corners than other brands. As mentioned above, Retro Ride Hub has tested all it's materials on bike frames and rims to ensure there is an acceptable level of application for prolonged use but cannot take responsibility for varying conditions, frequency of use and a combination of these differing bike materials specific to each rider. Results therefore may vary for certain customers.

Will removing of the decals damage my bike? Our products are made from durable, weatherproof and high-quality commercial grade industry materials. These products have been tested on all bike components and have a long lineage of hardy wear in the automobile industry with high quality results resulting in easy removal with minimal to no residual left on the surface. If removal is needed and residue remains, a gentle oil like Eucalyptus Oil will assist to remove the remaining stubborn adhesive without damaging your bike.
-
How do I remove the decals?Depending on the decal material is use, there are two recommended methods for removal: 1) typical removal - using a soft but firm edged instrument such as your fingernail or a special plastic tool, apply sufficient pressure to the corner edge and gently lift and remove. No adhesive material should be left behind. 2) stubborn removal - typically the thiner the material, the longer the material has been applied or if there is a suspicion that adhesive material could remain, then the following steps are suggested: a) apply warm air to the decal surface using a hairdryer (or something similar). Be conscious to not overheat and melt the decal causing potential damage to your bike / frame. b) when the material softens and becomes supple, then as per step 1 above, a soft instrument or finger nail can be applied to the edge to remove the decal. c) check for residual adhesive. If present a gentle natural oil like Eucalyptus Oil is usually ideal for removing stubborn residue without damaging the surface of your bike / frame, preserving its luster.

Can I receive a refund? Please refer to our Return policy for more detailed information regarding refunds. In addition, please refer to guidance FAQ notes below regarding the possible refund scenarios that could exist for incorrectly sized decals or damaged goods. For instances outside these occurrences, for the avoidance of doubt, Retro Ride Hub will not consider refunding if: 1) Customers incorrectly advise dimensions, colour, finish, style / design or make / brand of products order, 2) There are any goods damaged after safe receipt to the advised despatch address (as per shipping order), and 3) Customers have a change-of-mind on their sale item(s). For instances where refunds could be considered, customers must advise of the issue within 45 days of the purchase date otherwise Retro Ride Hub reserves the right to forfeit refund consideration. If there are issues with goods, then Retro Ride Hub may require these items to be returned for quality control inspection. What happens if the decals are the wrong size?As per the FAQ guide above (How do I measure and advise correct sizing during the order process?) the sizing of the decals is advised by you the customer at the ordering stage in either our Product Page, Quick View or Add to Cart option under the search results, and made to order by Retro Ride Hub to meet your specific meaurement requirements. Incorrect to order If the goods arrive incorrect to specifications in your order, we instruct the customer to contact Retro Ride Hub immediately via email and conduct the following steps: 1) Provide an explanation of the discrepancy, 2) Using a measuring device, attach a picture(s) of the graphic / text on your bike accurately capturing the size of this graphic / text, 3) Using a measuring device again, attach a separate picture(s) illustrating the sizing error of the decal ordered and issued to you by Retro Ride Hub, so that we can consider reissuance of fresh decals in line with your original purchase request. a) For larger decals that are cut into separate letters, align the lettering carefully side by side (i.e. no gaps between cuts) so and accurate measure can be provided, or b) For smaller decals that remain intact (i.e. letters not individually cut), provide a measure of this from end to end. For optimized results, it’s recommended that the decals be carefully removed from the packaging, arranged side-by-side as if they were being applied to the frame / rims of your bike, and then a measurement of these provided in contrast to the actual size of the decals required. Undertaking the above will provide twofold insight: 1) This will allow the discrepancy to be illustrated so the source of the sizing issue can be determined (possibly requiring our machines to be recalibrated), and 2) Allows for consideration of a reorder and reissue of correct sizing suited to your needs in line with your original request. Inadvertent sizing error by the customer As per the Returns & Refunds Policy, Retro Ride Hub will not be held liable for return, exchange or refund of incorrectly sized measurements provided by the customer as part of the purchasing process at checkout. We ask that ALL customers measure twice and confirm once prior to finalizing their order at checkout to ensure the sizing of your decals are to your specific requirements. Any misquoting of sizing in the ordering process by the customer, is unfortunately risk borne by the customer. Please take extra care to ensure accurate sizing is advised prior to ordering and checkout. Possible contact with you the customer Given bike manufacturers typically have set sizing templates, if Retro Ride Hub does identify or suspects an unusual sized order request, we may check the order with you via email prior to order processing and despatch. This however, is not a guaranteed service offering in all instances and so extra measurement care by customers is always encouraged.
-
What happens if the decal(s) colour, finish, style / design or make / brand received is incorrect?Retro Ride Hub assumes in such instances that this is an incorrect to order scenario in which case Retro Ride Hub will consider reissuance of decals to you noting the below. As per the ordering process in checkout via the Product Page colour, finish (matte or gloss), style / design (i.e. the specific styalized text or graphic used by any given brand) and make / brand are all mandatory fields. Therefore, if any of these variables differs in what you receive vs. what was ordered, then we instruct you to contact Retro Ride Hub immediately via email and conduct the following steps: 1) Provide an explanation of the discrepancy, 2) Attach a picture(s) illustrating the issue of the decal issued to you by Retro Ride Hub, so that we can confirm this against order details and consider reissuance of fresh decals in line with your original purchase request.
-
What happens if the decals don't line up?Separate from this being a sizing related issue (in which case refer to above "What happens if the decals are the wrong size?" FAQ for remedy), assuming you haven’t progressed past Step 3 – Decal Alignment and adhered the decal to the frame or rim, then realignment may be possible in line with the How to Guide or below “how to” video. Realign the decal as per the How to Guide. If the decals still don’t line up, then there may be a sizing issue. It’s worth rechecking your sizing as per your order to us in comparison to a remeasure of your frame / rim to confirm the discrepancy. On lighter more vivid frames and rims, even 1mm variances can standout and so accurate measurement is crucial. If you have progressed past “Step 3 – Decal Alignment” and adhered &/or removed the application transfer tape, readjustment by peeling the back decal off your bike may result in stretching and deformity in your decal and is likely not possible.
-
What happens if the decals bubble or lift?Bubbling or lifting can occur for a variety of reasons. Depending on bike manufacturers, outer bike surfaces can vary in their use of materials. Whilst Retro Ride Hub’s materials adhere robustly to almost all bike surfaces, variances are still likely. Insufficient surface cleanliness of your bike / frame prior to application can also cause bubbling or lifting. To minimize this possibility, we recommend applying decals in line with our How to Guide page and “What do I use to prepare the surface and apply the decals?” FAQ above. Lifting can be attributed to poor surface preparation however, succeptibility to lifting can more likely occur through poor ongoing maintenance and cleaning of your bike decals especially if exposed to elements. If correct regular care of your frame / bike is occuring and lifting is detected, then readhession might still be possible. Checking for any lifting both pre * post your ride is a great way to avoid undetected lifting. In the instance that bubbling is detected, two options are possible: 1) Our material is suitably flexible enough that you may be able to bleed out the bubble through firm but careful pressure towards the otter edge. 2) In extreme cases where option 1 doesn’t yield the desired result because the decal is cured, then taking a sharp razor blade perforate the bubble to allow the air to release and then firmly press down to adhere.
-
What happens if the decals rip or tear?Issues prior to application identified at point of arrival / opening Refer to policy above - What happens if goods are damaged upon arrival? Issues during the application process In all other instances where tearing or ripping of the decal occurs, reapplication may still be possible with careful removal so long as you haven’t passed Step 5 of the How to Guide and removed the clear application transfer tape.
